Video installation 21:03 min, concrete fragment from site, rubble, battery powered lights
Over the course of 7 weeks I had the opportunity to film a department store being torn down that was built in the 90’s. The building had apparently exceeded it’s ascribed lifespan of approximately 30 years and was planned for reconstruction. Cris-crossing construction vehicles, extreme weather conditions and late work shifts could be seen as the old department store was being torn down, while at the same time the new one was being built.
At the centre of this process of tearing down are the processes of breaking, sorting and … (making smaller) . The video installation documentsthe strenous efforts of carefully deconstructing and sorting the materials in order to be recycled.
